Galatians 6:6-10
6The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him.
7Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
8For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
9Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
10So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
I think I need to go line by line with today’s message. I thought about breaking it up into smaller devotionals but my hear tis calling me to this passage altogether.
Verse 6: I feel this is telling us about interacting and encouraging our spiritual leaders and teachers. Think about someone you may be teaching or have taught. Is it not a good feeling to have a student return and tell you that you taught them well, that certain things you taught affected their lives in a positive way? It may also help the teacher themselves as it provides feedback as to what helped and what didn’t. Also, we shouldn’t hesitate to ask them questions about struggles you are having. I feel this applies to all areas of life, not just spirituality.
Verse 7: A reminder for us that we can’t “trick” God into blessing us or accepting us into heaven. As my pastor said once, “God isn’t susceptible to loopholes.” As humans we find it easy to think and act this way.
Verse 8: A couple weeks ago I heard a sermon about being the soil for God’s seed to grow and become fruitful with the Fruit of the Spirit. This line applies. For if we invest in the ways of our sinful selves, we will only produce bad fruit. However if we invest in the desires of the Spirit, we will produce good fruit.
Verse 9: It’s easy to feel like we “do all this good stuff” yet nothing comes of it. We work a thankless job, we serve a thankless family, society seems to work against us, etc. Here Paul encourages us that if we stay the course, our rewards will be plentiful and we will recognize that it was worth it.
Verse 10: Carpe Diem. Seize the Day. Act now while we have the chance, for if we don’t do it today, we may never again have the chance and our lives will begin to fill with regret.
