Let Go

2 Thessalonians 2:5-7

5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.

This passage seems almost cryptic, but in reality it isn’t.  If we look elsewhere throughout the bible, we learn that things only happen because God allows it to happen for His purpose.  Granted, there are times in everyone’s life where we don’t quite agree with how God is handling things but retrospectively we eventually see there was a greater purpose for the seemingly “bad” things that happen.  This passage is a reminder that God is in ultimate control.

Remember, Paul here is talking about the Antichrist.  He is restrained by God until the time comes for him to be released and until that time comes, the world is “ramping up” for that time.  This is what I believe Paul is referring to as “the mystery of lawlessness.”  We see in the book of Revelation that certain events happen leading up to the beginning of the end.  Since it has been written, the Revelation has caused quite a stir and some have become preoccupied with preparing for that part of the bible instead of living out the rest of the bible, as I talked about yesterday.

So, what do we do with this?  There are several instances throughout the bible that reflect this ultimate control God has: Job, Revelation, the 4 Gospels, Acts (just to name a few).  What we do with this is: not worry.  Imagine if all the energy we put into worrying was used to meditate on God’s Word and live it out! (talking to myself here, lol)

God has called us to a life of freedom.  Who are we to not live it out?  He has all the troubles in the world taken care of, He is just waiting for us to accept it and fly.

What are you holding onto?
