Psalm 15

psalm-15-2

Psalm 15

In this short psalm from David, we read a very applicable explanation of how we are to behave as children of the Kingdom of God. In fact, the last verse speaks of not being “shaken” as a result. This refers to one who walks in God’s unshakable kingdom.

Last night I had the pleasure of teaching at a Celebrate Recovery meeting about what a life of recovery looks like. As Christians trying to grow in knowledge of and obedience to Christ, we are all in a state of recovery from lives of sinfulness. In this psalm, David encourages us to walk with integrity, live righteously, and be honest on a heart level. This doesn’t just mean to “speak the truth in love” to people (which is usually our justification for saying things to others that they don’t want to hear), but more importantly being honest with ourselves. Where is the sin in our lives? What are we doing about it? In Romans 12:9 Paul encourages the church in Rome:

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.

We must be willing to reject sin in our lives. If our hearts have become embittered, shameful, broken, or otherwise are in a place where we cannot fully and truly worship God, then we have some work to do. We must surrender this to Him who heals and makes things right so we can walk once again in this unshakable kingdom.

Jesus’ ministry was based on His Kingdom come on earth. In Matthew 4 we read Him saying,

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Our repentance allows us to draw near to Him and walk in His ways. In this we can be honest, upright, loving, resistant to evil, and unshakable.
