The Pureness of Christ

1 John 3:1-3

1See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

2Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

3And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

This message makes me think back to when Christ said that we should come to Him as children. Here, John explains through our rebirth as Christians that we are His children and that He looks upon us as children: innocent. It is through Christ’s sacrifice that we are made pure, holy, and innocent in God’s eyes.

This is possible for everyone. Notice verse 3 does not have any exceptions. EVERYONE who has this hope is purified. We are made clean of our sins, considered blameless of our sin and therefore righteous before the Almighty God. What a blessing this is! for in this dark world there is but one true hope, and that is salvation through Christ.

While this may seem like a message only for unbelievers, it is also a reminder for believers alike. For even though we are made pure, do we claim it? Do we act as though we are made clean? Or, do we take it for granted and live as though it doesn’t matter. Do we take advantage of the fact that Christ has atoned for our sins?

I’ve been reminded of a point Paul made in Romans…are we living saved?
