Remember that previously, the author was talking about the majesty of Christ over the angels and that if the Jews deem angels important and powerful, then Jesus is all the more.
Hebrews 2:1-4
1 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, 3 how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, 4 God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.
We must pay closer attention. We have gotten lax and lazy, not just spiritually but in all aspects of life. We’d rather lay back and let someone do the work for us. We’d prefer someone to merely tell us what the bible says instead of reading it for ourselves. We’d rather politicians lie to us without us figuring out what is really going on. We think that ignorance is bliss, when in fact we are constantly being duped, tricked, and convinced of a truth that isn’t truth at all. It’s a manufactured feel-good environment that does us no service at all but blind us to the reality of things until it’s too late. We must pay closer attention.
In my previous post, I mentioned that the spiritual realm is “all or nothing,” that if we are going to accept part of its existence, we cannot negate the existence of things we don’t like. We must open ourselves to the possibility that there are things we do not know, understand, and even things that will flip our belief system on its head. Once we get into this perspective, we can begin to fully appreciate the existence of God. He is the source of all things and therefore if there are angels, demons, spirits, and principalities, then He surely exists as the controller of it all. Things happen because He allows them to happen. Just because we don’t have a good explanation for it doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
Our societal laziness has caused us to turn the other way instead of investigate. I have implored people on many occasions that if they really want to discover the truth about God, they have to put in the work. This doesn’t mean to just read the bible or even study it; it means to take what you read and learn and put it into practice. Look around and pay attention to the world around you; you will begin to see the truth of the scriptures playing out in everyday life. But we are lazy; I am lazy. How often do you sit and contemplate the spiritual authority that is binding the progress of the town you live in? When is the last time you have prayed for God to give you insight into the powers and principalities that are leading to the downfall of your nation? We have become lazy to the point that we don’t even pay attention to what the bible says; even if you think it is just a compilation of letters and books written by men, it is still a 5,000-year collaboration of things that are all intertwined. It’s a huge scientific journal that chronicles events that have not only taken place in the spiritual realm, but is constantly reinforced by events that are happening today!
I’m sure at least one of you reading this today are scoffing at what I am saying, yet you refuse to put it to the test for fear of what you might find. What if I’m right? What if all these ancient writings have truth to them? Then you could be wrong in your worldview! Oh wait, but you aren’t…that’s why you won’t “waste your time” reading and learning and applying what it says to discover the source of truth and a solid foundation to stand on. If you discover it isn’t true, then you will know for sure. If you discover it is true, then all of you who claim to seek the truth will finally find it. If you neglect it all together you will only know when it is too late.
All but the first sentence of your final paragraph could be applied towards you as well. What if YOU’RE the one that’s wrong? What if Krishna or Ra or Odin or Zeus or Mithra is the “one true god”? I guess you’ll only find out once “it is too late”. Do you want to know WHY atheists don’t believe in your god? It’s the same reason you don’t believe in any other gods. Atheists and you have a lot in common when it comes to belief in gods, but with one important distinction: atheists take the same critical thinking stance towards every other god than yours that you do, and then they use that same critical thinking stance towards the one god you DO believe in.
Dylan, your arguments aren’t new, they aren’t logical, and they aren’t foolproof. They’ve all been debunked multiple times over. They’re all easily discredited.
I think there is one thing you missed about my point: I wasn’t telling everyone but Christians to take this approach; I was telling everyone especially Christians to take this approach. I’m not singling out those who don’t believe the same things I do and saying, “you’re doing it wrong,” I’m saying that yes, I could be wrong too. Every time I challenge my faith and belief it grows stronger. Every time I ask the question, “is this really what I believe? Could I be wrong?” by faith in Christ grows stronger. I pick apart these things to discover the truth and I’m encouraging others to do the same regardless of what they think they know and believe, Christians included. I could deny what I believe to be true, but then I wouldn’t be true to myself. It isn’t about following some man-made belief system because it makes me feel good. It’s about constantly seeking the core truth of existence and challenging EVERYTHING to see the truth in it instead of letting people who think they know what it is tell me to follow them. It’s why I post my material for people of different belief systems to help me challenge my beliefs, to get perspectives that aren’t my own and test them.
By the way, this wasn’t an “argument” at all. I’m not arguing against anyone or for anything. I’m trying to help people stop being lazy robots and think and explore for themselves, myself included. You should try it.
